Your car, truck, or utility vehicle has three to five filters depending on the make and model. The automobile definitely has three filters. The other two are not always common in vehicles. We are going to list the five auto filters below and the general recommendations for their changing schedule. We’ve got you covered when it comes to filter changes, so don’t worry.
Air
It doesn’t matter what you drive; it has an air filter. This filter is designed to remove the dirt and grime in the air that flows underneath the hood and through the grille. This clean air is used in the combustion chamber to start your automobile and keep it running. The general recommendation for changing the air filter is every 12,000 miles. A clogged air filter can cause the engine to surge.
Cabin
Your car may not have a cabin filter. This filter is not in every vehicle, but do not worry. If your automobile is not equipped with a cabin filter, it will have a permanent net that purifies the air. We wish we could tell you the general recommendation for changing the cabin filter, but this mileage milestone varies widely. As such, we suggest you check your owner’s manual to see when the cabin filter needs to be changed.
Fuel
We can give you a general recommendation for changing the fuel filter, and this recommendation is every 30,000 miles. You do not want to end up with a clogged fuel filter in your automobile because the fuel may not be able to pass through the filter and you won’t be able to get your engine started. In addition, the clogged filter can release additional dirt and sediment into the fuel hoses.
Oil
The oil filter is extremely important to the health of your engine. It keeps the oil clean so it does not deposit grime onto the moving parts while it is circulating through the engine. The oil filter is automatically changed when the oil is changed, so depending on your oil change schedule, the filter will be changed every 3,000 miles or every 5,000 miles.
Transmission
Finally, the transmission filter is another filter that is not found in every automobile. This being said, if your vehicle is equipped with a transmission filter, it generally needs to be changed every 30,000 miles. This ensures you always have filter transmission fluid in the transmission.
