An AC Check Now Keeps It Running All Summer Long

McCurley’s Shell recommends that you give us a call to set up an air conditioner check to make sure that your AC will keep your car cool on the inside all summer long. We will inspect the air conditioning system thoroughly to make sure there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. If we find a problem, we will let you know in detail what that problem is and what it will take to fix it. Below, is a list of air conditioning parts and systems that we inspect thoroughly as part of our annual AC check.

Compressor

The compressor definitely needs to be tested because it hasn’t been running all winter long. Unfortunately, lack of operation can actually cause the compressor to malfunction. Therefore, we will test the compressor to make certain it is operating every time you turn on the air conditioner. We will also check to make sure it is compressing the refrigerant and circulating it.

Condenser

That is the compressor’s job. The condenser’s job is to keep the refrigerant cold. It uses outside air and a fan to do so. To draw the outside air through it, the condenser has air inlets, and it is located behind the grille. Although this location helps the condenser to do its job, it also opens up the condenser to being clogged and damaged by dirt and debris. As such, we will inspect the condenser.

Condenser Fan

We will also have a good look at the condenser fan to make sure it has not been damaged, either. In addition, because the condenser relies on this fan to help it keep the refrigerant cool, we will test it to make sure that it comes on every time you turn on the air conditioner.

Electrical System

One of the things that can cause problems with the condenser fan is the electrical system. If there is a blown fuse, broken switch, or frayed wiring, the condenser fan may not get the electricity that it needs to run. In fact, the entire air conditioning system may not get the electricity it needs. As such, we will also take the time to inspect the electrical system to make sure it is safe and operational.

Refrigerant Level

Finally, you need plenty of refrigerant in the air conditioning system in order for cold air to blow through the vents. We will check the refrigerant level and top it off if necessary.
