We are going to list the different oil types below. This gives you more information about what is available on the market.

Conventional

Conventional can be considered the most reliable oil on the market because it has been around for over a century. This oil is an excellent choice for vehicles that have standard engines. This oil is affordable and reliable. It needs to be changed every 3,000 miles. Every six months is a good rule of thumb for an oil change if you do very little driving in your automobile. Conventional motor oil is basic; there aren’t any bells and whistles. It just does its job of protecting the engine and removing excess heat.

High-Mileage

One type of conventional motor oil that does have additives is high-mileage motor oil. This oil is manufactured to be used in automobiles that have 75,000 miles or more on their odometers. The additives that are included in high-mileage motor oil are designed to prevent the engine from springing an oil leak. This is a common problem once your engine starts to age. As with its conventional counterpart, high-mileage motor oil needs to be changed every 3,000 miles or six months.

Synthetic

Many people swear by synthetic motor oil and for good reason. This motor oil is man-made and contains additives that are designed to make it last longer in your automobile. The average duration between oil changes when you use synthetic motor oil is 7,500 to 10,000 miles. This motor oil is also recommended for high-performance engines that run hotter than standard engines. Synthetic motor oil also does an excellent job of standing up to extremely hot or cold weather conditions.

Synthetic Blend

Finally, you may not need a full synthetic motor oil in your engine, but you may want the benefits. If this is the case, you can choose a synthetic blend that combines synthetic and conventional motor oils. This motor oil does an excellent job of protecting your engine and can last longer between oil changes than straight conventional motor oil.
